Lifestyle & Wellness

Evidence keeps mounting in the medical world about the importance of lifestyle in both physical and mental health.

Multiple studies have been published in the last few years pointing to the “Mediterranean Diet” as both protecting against and helping in the treatment of depressive symptoms. It’s easy to follow, flexible and encourages a balanced, down to earth approach to eating. According to the Mayo Clinic, the Mediterranean diet emphasizes:

  • Eating lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts
  • Replacing butter and shortening with healthy fats, such as olive oil
  • Using herbs and spices instead of salt to flavor foods
  • Limiting red meat to no more than a few times a month
  • Eating fish and poultry at least twice a week

There is, as well, more and more being written about regular physical activity and exercise. 30 to 45 minutes 3 to 4 times a week can have a dramatic effect on many measures of physical health and can consistently decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety. It can be as simple as fast walking or as involved working with a trainer at the gym. The critical thing is regularity and consistency over time.

So start working out and making good food choices and you will quickly feel happier, sharper and energized! The Jovium System can be a critical component to a healthier lifestyle.
